Book Club of Texas Publications
The Book Club of Texas has a home at the SMU Degolyer Library. The Book Club is offers a wonderful selection of publications on Texas history and literature for the collector. For bookbinders, The Book Club offers unbound sheets for special editions such as Josefina Niggli, The Defeat of Grandfather Devil: From the Twelfth-Century Spanish Shepherds’ Play As Performed Yearly at Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.
The 40 page book measures 7 inches in height and 8.5 inches in width, with lovely linocut illustrations by Artemio Rodriguez scattered throughout. Niggli’s charming play is edited by William M. Fisher who also provides an afterword. It is designed and printed by Bradley Hutchinson in Austin, Texas on Hahnemühle Biblio paper. Cristóbal Henestrosa designed the typeface Espinosa Nova with Espinosa Nova Rotunda used on this publication.
